In many patients suffering from PCOD, multiple cysts develop in the ovaries. Although not dangerous, these cysts can cause hormonal imbalance. The cysts are formed due to the disruptions in the regular hormonal cycle of women. High amounts of androgen and estrogens are produced when the ovary is enlarged. CAUSES OF Polycystic Ovarian (PCOS)

The high amount of insulin in the blood can also lead to Polycystic Ovarian (PCOS). Insulin is the hormone responsible for changing the food you eat into energy. Sometimes, the body’s cells do not respond normally to insulin. This causes the insulin levels to be higher than the normal. Over time, the high amount of insulin can lead to type-2 diabetes in the patients. Many patients who have insulin resistance were found to have PCOS.
